In Tune: Issue #1

Over the past three months we shipped more than 600 improvements (!) including a dramatically more capable Toni, a template builder that saves your work for you, and a calmer, roomier workspace across Sales and Insights.

Toni went from simply answering questions to doing the work

Toni is now more equipped to work alongside you. Open a contract PDF, a CSV, or a text document and Toni reads it and acts on it. It can build a contract from an import and attach the source file, create rate conditions, and even set up deductions or reserves by pulling them straight out of the contract PDF. It’ll set your Sales Explorer and Sales Files filters for you, and jump you to the right page when you ask.

Toni is also just easier to follow. Toni’s steps now collapse into a single summary instead of scrolling past every action it took, and it’ll summarize a plan for your review before making any big changes. As always, Toni won’t take any actions without your explicit permission.

Your sales file templates now save themselves

Mapping a sales file is detailed work, and losing it halfway through is the worst. Templates now save automatically as you go. We redesigned the template builder around it: the column and overview panels were reworked, the Original and Cleaned views now have their own URLs so you can link a colleague straight to what you’re looking at, and the builder holds its place instead of resetting when a sheet picks up a template.

A calmer, roomier workspace

Filters used to float over the data you were trying to read. Now they dock cleanly to the side on both Sales Explorer and Insights, so you can adjust and compare at the same time.

The newly updated Library also uses a docked rail down its left edge, giving you much more room in your browser to view and work through your tracks, releases, payees and contracts.

Did you know?

Tone can now source missing catalog metadata from 3 reliable sources. When you’re importing new catalog or resolving unmapped sales, Tone looks up your ISRCs and UPCs against Spotify, Apple Music, and MusicBrainz, in that order. If a track isn’t on the first platform, it automatically tries the next, so identifiers that used to come back empty now often resolve on the second or third attempt. Each match shows which source it came from, so you can see exactly where a title, artist, or release date originated before you accept it.

Tip: If you’ve previously had a hard time finding metadata for some unmapped sales lines, it’s worth re-running them now.

Use Tone like the Tone Team

“I used to spend hours reading through contracts, interpreting the royalty terms, and setting everything up in Tone by hand. Now I can drop in the PDF, have Toni interpret the agreement and build out the rates, then use the Contract Analyzer to check the setup against the original contract language. I still have final say, but Toni does most of the heavy lifting upfront. What used to take an afternoon now takes about ten minutes of review.” – Kaitlyn Russell, Manager of Royalty Services

New for your payees

Toni is now available to every payee on Tone. Your payees can now ask Toni about their own statements, balances, and payment status directly. Common questions are where their latest statement is, what a payment status means, or what’s needed before they can be paid. Toni walks them through it without needing you. It’s deliberately careful about the line between you and them: for anything that’s your call like payout timing, a specific payment date, a question about the sales data behind a statement, Toni explains the situation plainly and directs them to you.

This means fewer routine questions in your inbox, and the ones that do reach you are the ones that actually need you.
